How build a small dock on the lake?

Hi,
There is a small lake in the back of my house and I would like to build a small dock for fishing purposes. I can make two posts (to support) on land but how do I make another two posts that is in the lake (about 3 feet out from land and the water depth is about only 1ft at that point)? How do I dig in the water to make the post and to keep it from going down in time? Thanks!

If you don’t want to go the floating dock route, you have two options one is pounding in a post(s), the other is weighted. Since you are not at a deep depth you should be able to just pound in a post(s) to support your dock, you will want to check and see if you need permits/permission to install something like this and how deep it needs to be. The other way might be to use a concrete weight; they make concrete foundations for decks you can attach a post to one of those. Cheaper even than that is a five gallon bucket with a post and concrete in it. If you go the weighted route you might have to deal with shifting of the lake bed, but not if you go the pounded route, but you will need to get it in deep to have something sturdy.

boats on the dock why dont people just steal them?

i don't understand why dont people just go and take it for parts…they just leave it there i mean the engine and other stuff exposed..

We have a boat landing with many camps that leave their boat and motors at their camp when they are not there.. There is from 3-5 boat motors stolen every year from the camps. I can only assume that this would be the norm all over the states, due to the drug problems in the nation.

Putting the docks away for the winter

SIDESHIFT - Prototype Test Video (NEW)

This is a prototype test video for our new SS230 bow thruster. Testing was conducted on a 26′ Bayliner. For pictures and specifications please visit www.sideshift.com.

Testing was conducted in very cold water and against a strong wind. The objective was to test durability and performance. Please note that because of the strong wind the sound quality is not that great.

This video is divided into two parts. Part one shows what the new thruster looks like when the boat is on plane. Part one also shows the water line when the boat is moving slowing. Part two shows close up angles and performance testing of the new thruster.

What is the best SE Wisconsin boating lake to hold a bachelor party? Boating and Night Life!?

Planning a bachelor party in Southeastern/ Central Wisconsin; what is the best boating lake/river that allows for all kinds of boats (i.e. speed boats, pontoons) and will provide an action filled night life at the local bar scene? Major positive: bars on the lake/river that we can dock our boats and have a drink.

Lake Geneva is fun, true. If you're not opposed… Madison is a blast.

Start at Lake Waubesa, just south of Madison. Launch at Goodland Park at the end of Waubesa Avenue in the Town of Dunn. Launch the boat, bring along the obligatory cooler of beverages. Definitely designate a sober driver. You don't want that hanging over your head to ruin the fun!

Do some loops around the south end of the lake, open up the throttles, and immediately head north along the west shore to Christy's Landing for some amazing Bloody Mary's under the tiki bar. (You did begin this adventure in the morning, right?) Order some food, they make great stuff, and frankly, you'll need it to get thru the day.

Back into the boat. Jet straight across the lake to the town of McFarland. There used to be a restaurant there called the Green Lantern. Should still be around. Hit the bar for some low prices and jam the jukebox.

Back to the boat! Head north out of Lake Waubesa into Mud Lake and the Yahara channel. Lots of boats coming and going on nice weekends - be wary of the traffic and the jet skis bobbing around in the boat wakes! Get under the highway, under Broadway, and look on your left for empty boat slips at the Bourbon Street Grille. Pull in for fun in the sun on their roof top deck.

Finish there, and head further north into beautiful Lake Monona! Open up the throttle, do some swimming (with the supervision of the sober driver, please), and head north-ish towards the big giant white building with the pointy thing on top (the capitol).

Just in front of the capitol, you'll see the Monona Terrace convention Center. To it's Right (just north-ish) is a city park called Law Park. Pull the boat in, you may have to drop passengers on the dock and moor the boat, and walk up the street to the Essen Haus / Come Back Inn to drink good German beer out of a boot! Okay…. if you're still standing… the sun must be ready to set! Get your sober driver to take you up the Yahara river once more, through the locks at Tenney Park, and into Lake Mendota. Hang a left, and if you have time, hit up the Edgewater Hotel's outside deck. Dock up, and have some cocktails. From there, motor further up the shore to UW Madison's Memorial Union Terrace. Drop anchor, and listen to the live bands jam as you float peacefully under the stars. Pass out in the boat. Wake up several hours later with a nasty headache and some great memories.

Do you have to board a cruise ship at a specific location?

I live on an island which is visited by cruise ships, so it seems illogical to fly elsewhere to get on the boat that's then going to come back to where I live! I understand that there are certain embarkation points, etc., but can I just do 'part' of it!? Likewise, if I got on elsewhere, it would seem plain daft to dock where I live a day or two before I'm due to fly home again! Can I just finish the cruise at that point?! I'm sorry if this is a silly question - I just have NO idea where cruises are concerned! Thanks for your help.

Some cruise lines will allow you to get on or off the ship at ports other than the departure and return port. BUT you must make those arrangement ahead of time, especially for getting on ship. The last cruise that we did on a RC ship there were about two dozen passengers who boarded at the first stop that we made after the departure. But I believe that they missed the ship's departure due to a late airline connection.

Corporate Executive?

A retired corporate executive, now a widower, decided to take a vacation.
He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to havet he time of his
life, that is, until the ship sank.
He found himself on an island with no other people, no supplies,nothing,
only bananas and coconuts.
After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most
gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to the shore.
In disbelief, he asks, "Where did you come from? How did you get here? She
replies, "I rowed from the other side of the island. I landed here when my
cruise ship sank."
"Amazing," he notes. "You were really lucky to have a row boat wash up with
you."
"Oh, this thing?" explains the woman. "I made the boat out of raw material
I found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum tree branches. I
wove the bottom from palm branches, and the sides and stern came from a
Eucalyptus tree. "But, where did you get the tools?
"Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman. "On the south side of the
island, a very unusual stratum of alluvial rock is exposed. I
found if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into
ductile iron.. I used that for tools and used the tools to make the
hardware." The guy is stunned.
"Let's row over to my place," she says.
After a few minutes of rowing, she docks the boat at a small wharf.
As the man looks to shore, he nearly falls off the boat. Before him is a
stone walk leading to an exquisite bungalow painted in blue and white.
While the woman ties up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemp rope, the
man can only stare ahead, dumbstruck.
As they walk into the house, she says casually, "It's not much,
but I call it home. Sit down, please. Would you like a drink?"
"No! No thank you," he blurts out, still dazed. "I can't take another drop
of coconut juice."
"It's not coconut juice," winks the woman. "I have a still. How would you
like a Pina Colada?"
Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepts, and they sit down
on her couch to talk.
After they have exchanged their stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to
slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and
shave? There is a razor upstairs in the bathroom cabinet." No longer
questioning anything, the man goes into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet, a
razor made from a piece of tortoise bone. Two shells honed to a hollow ground
edges are fastened on to its end inside a swivel mechanism.
"This woman is amazing," he muses. "What next?"
When he returns, she greets him wearing nothing but vines, strategically
positioned, and smelling faintly of gardenias. She beckons for him to sit
down next to her.
"Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him,
"We've been out here for many months. You've been lonely. There's
something I'm sure you really feel like doing right now, something you've
been longing for?" She stares into his eyes.
He can't believe what he's hearing. "You mean, " he swallows
excitedly and tears start to form in his eyes, as he says, "don't tell me
you've built a Golf Course !"

Oh, this is one to remember and share… I would rate you 11 out of 10 if you had asked for us to rate!
